The Mead-Haven Ministers' Fraternal launched the national FORGIVENESS CAMPAIGN on March 4, 2003 as part of its contribution to the National Values & Attitudes Programme.
The campaign comes as a direct response to the findings of the National Survey on the Motive for Murders 2002. The survey indicates that reprisals accounted for 32% of murders in 2002 while domestic violence accounted for an additional 27%.
The Fraternal is of the view that over time, the campaign on Forgiveness could have a positive impact on the nation. This would result in less violence arising out of reprisals and revenge killings. The forum was organised by the Yallahs Youth Committee (YYC) in collaboration with the Social Development Commission under the theme, "To Lead or to be Lead? You Answer the Question." Its main objective was to educate the youth about Jamaica's system of government and its accessibility to the people.
