There are quite a number of steel bands operating across the island presently. One can think of the Panoridim Steel Band operating out of the University of the West Indies and the Humming Bird Steel band to name a few… The rich musical tradition of some of our schools and churches has included steel bands, for example the Holy Childhood High School in St. Andrew. Some schools are even entering their steel bands in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's Festival of Arts Competition and are doing extremely well. Mr. Bennett is the driving force behind the campaign to make the Ward Theatre function as a Civic and Cultural Centre whilst providing a home for the development and exposition of the Performing Arts for the edification of the Jamaican people. Now retired, Mr. Bennett is the former chairman of the Creative Production and Training Centre, Jamaica School of Drama and the Jamaica School of Music. Watch this space for more information on our upcoming guest this month. Veteran actor Charles Hyatt will be joining us online on Thursday 29 May at 6pm (EST). He is still as frisky as in his youth.
