Rosemarie Stone - A story of love
and courage |
Her
appearance on the popular television interview recently sent shock
waves through many Jamaicans unused to such candour about a subject
that is still taboo in some quarters. But for author Rosemarie Stone,
widow of the late lecturer Carl Stone, the time had come to start
talking publicly about how she contracted the dreaded HIV virus from
her husband, and the subsequent nightmarish proportions her life assumed.

Roving with Lalah : Water delivery
day in Harmons |
There
is no harmony in Harmons whenever the water truck comes around.
"Gyal, kirout! Memba a me first did deh yah so!" shouted
Lillian, a 40-something-year-old woman with a pronounced lisp and
surprisingly long toenails. She waved her hands frantically and
then kicked Munchie's bucket that was under the pipe being filled.
Now Munchie, a loud, fiery woman in her early 20s didn't take kindly
to this at all.
Last week Lalah stops in Harmons. Read more at http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20070517/news/news1.html

Death rituals", at http://www.jamaica-gleaner.com/pages/history/.
"Death rituals like those related to labour and delivery were
not banned during slavery and so they served as a means of cultural
preservation. Unlike birth rituals, however, although death rituals
have also largely been replaced by Western conventions, some traditions
remain strong. In addition, as with the birth of a child, death
and burial are still ways of bringing family and friends together"
